Free video tutorials for the open source 3d software, Blender. I tried following the Blender Guru tutorial on “how to make fire in cycles”, with Blender 2.73a from blender.org, but at step 2 I cannot see the smoke, only the highlighted empty cube. 1 hour rendering time, I might soon change PC lol
Yup, Blender Internal is greatly underestimated. Blender Guru.

Comparing Cycles to the brand new Eevee renderer, coming to Blender 2.8. r/blender: /r/blender is a subreddit devoted to Blender, the amazing open-source software program for 3D modeling, animation, rendering and more!
A huge collection of high quality materials for Blender's Cycles renderer. All the materials available for download are procedural, which means: It gives you crisp and sharp textures, as it can have infinitely high resolution. The grass is procedurally generated using only a particle system, no shape meshes, just playing with the hair tip (set to zero), base (fatter than zero) and adjusting the brownian, randomizing the placement and only having 2 segments per piece of grass, that's 50,000 strands of grass on the left, 100,000 on the right (mostly hidden by the vehicle). The ultimate free materials resource for blender (cycles render engine) at BoundlessBlending.com – 100% Procedural. P.s. The tutorial from Blender Guru shows you how to create easy texture mapping for spheres; how to use maps to make more convincing materials; how to create a realistic sunflare entirely in Blender; and how to add glow, colour grading and a warp effect in the compositor. My first ever blender render, made in 2 days following the beginner tutorial from the Guru, huge thanks to him for breaking the complexity of this software in such a fun way I'm already growing passionate about it! source Tags Blender , blender 3d , blender guru , blender modeling tutorial , cycles render tutorial , Maps , PBR , poliigon , textures , tutorial
Of course it's difficult to get photorealistic results with it, but it's much, much faster than cycles, amazing for cartoonish stuff, game-ready models and animations, and has far superior viewport.
If you're about to start working with the latest version of Blender, be sure to check out this helpful Blender tutorial from Blender expert Andrew Price, aka Blender Guru, which showcases the new interface, shortcuts and functionalities of Blender v2.8 Beta. This tutorial uses several textures from NASA to create a realistic planet Earth using Blender Cycles.
